Working in Bulgaria
Working in Bulgaria is increasingly popular for companies and expats. The Balkan welcomes you so to speak. While many will not think of Bulgaria, because it is unknown. Moving and working abroad always offers new insights. You will find a new culture, new friends and new surroundings. The Bulgarian language will take you some time to learn, but with English you can get around fairly easy. Working in Bulgaria definitely offers a lot of excitement!
The Bulgarian economy is currently one of the most exciting investment locations in Europe. Since joining the EU in 2007, Bulgaria only requires work permits for non EU citizens. One will notice that many EU regulations still miss. The administration is sometimes incomprehensible, but once you are set up you are at ease. Nevertheless Bulgaria is working hard to catch up.
Management in Bulgaria is old school top-down. Lower managers have trouble taking decisions and responsibility. Not so much because they are not able, it is just how the management structure works. Expats rarely make (or want to become) managers as wages tend to be lower than for other positions. Strange but true.
While wages are among the lowest in Europe, expats usually make a generous living. The cost of living are only 50% compared to the rest of the EU. Add all this up and you understand why expats move to Bulgaria.
