Hungary might not rank high on the ‘go-to-travel’ list of many people, but the inhabitants and expats living in Hungary are likely to convince you otherwise. The Hungarian Alps offers beautiful landscapes with mountains and forests, but Hungary also offers gorgeous cities, villages and lakes.
Visit Budapest to see one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. While the roads in Hungary are by no means perfect, Hungary is a cool place to see by car. Drive around and dip into local culture, meet local people and taste traditional foods. A must-do for every expat in Hungary.
Until 1918 Hungary was part of the Austrian-Hungarian Hapsburg empire, of which still many palaces and buildings remind. After 1945 the country was under rule of the Soviet Union with which it broke ties in 1956 in a short but intense revolution. Added to the videos you find the Olympic water polo match between the USSR and Hungary in 1956. A match won by Hungary that stood symbol for this struggle as it was played at the same time Soviet tanks were rolling into Budapest.
Since 1956 Hungary is still scoping out the best political solution for its various ethnic groups and religions. The country is stable and economically viable as a cornerstone in central Europe.
