Koruns and Hellers, everything about Czech Money!
In the Czech Republic the currency is Czech Korun (CZK). 100 Haléřů (h = heller) make 1 Korun (Kč). Haléřů coins were 10 h, 20 h and 50 h, they are no longer in circulation. The korun is available in 1 Kč, 2 Kč, 5 Kč, 10 Kč, 20 Kč, 50 Kč coins and notes 100 Kč, 200 Kč, 500 Kč, 1000 Kč, 2000 Kč and 5000 Kč . The Korun is not fixed to the Euro. The current rate is € 1,- to around CZK 26,1895. Wages are paid in CZK.
Note: The 50 Kč note and heller coins have been discontinued
Euro’s can be changed at exchange offices, but it is cheaper to just use an ATM to obtain CZK. ATM’s can be found pretty much anywhere. If you decide to live in the Czech Republic, you will need a Czech bank account. You can open one with your ID card or passport and address in the Czech Republic.
You will find prices still indicate the heller. Eg. a price can be Kč 4,90, you will pay Kč 5. When shopping see to have some small currency at hand as shops generally cannot (or will not) change larger denominations.
